Dutch translation of Die neuesten Forschungsergebnisse über den internationalen Mädchenhandel und die Prostitution (1928); a German report on "white slave trade" for the worldwide sex industry by Alexander Werth (1901-1969). Illustrated with a map showing a smuggling route in South America. With a foreword by the Amsterdam Chief Commissioner of Police Aart Jacob Marcusse (1868-1933), also director of the "Rijksbureau betreffende de Bestrijding van de handel in vrouwen en kinderen en ontuchtige uitgaven."
¶ The book begins with the history of 'paid love' from the Roman Lupanarium to the modern brothel and the efforts of the League of Nations (predecessor of the United Nations) to curb abuses. Then follows a series of poignant stories and interview fragments. Around 1910 a young woman as a slave cost between 200 and 2000 dollars in the USA.
