¶ The first story is a reminder of the fisherman's life and rescue on the beaches of Zandvoort (by S.M. Hofstede de Groot). "Henry Sommerfeld" is partly set on the Velperweg near Arnhem and provides information about smuggling practices and tax evasion. "Onder de wilden" ["Among the savages"] describes the cruelty of the Native Americans in North America and "Zomeravond" is a poem, illuminated with a beautiful print of a cow. Romance!
