Collection of 145 largely different old postcards ('cartes postales') of the Dutch castle (and interior) in Wijk bij Duurstede, a village in the province of Utrecht. The cards (black & white / sepia, 15x polychrome) are circulated (43) and uncirculated (58), CAREFULLY attached at four points on an A4 sheet, always printed with specifications, stored in a plastic sleeve. The work of a loving collector.

Publishers of the (lithographed) postcards include JC Lington, Sjoerd J. Sieswerda, B. Brug, C.Vonk, JosPé, Weenenk & Snel and the Algemeene Postvereeniging. Period approx. 1900-1980; most early to mid 20th century. Furthermore, 1960s and 3 from after 1970 (in colour).

¶ The medieval Duurstede Castle was built in the 13th century as a 'fortified house' on the spot where Dorestad used to be. The Count of Bentheim lent the building to the Van Abcoude family. Between 1459 and 1496 the castle was thoroughly renovated; the old keep was enclosed by new constructions, including the Burgundian tower that features on almost all postcards. The castle was used as a location for TV series and films (including for "Bassie en Adriaan").
