English literary magazine from the 1930s with (short) stories and articles about i.a. culture and politics. Illustrated with black and white photos and reproductions. With table of contents. Cover: View of St Mary-le-Strand with a double-decker bus.
Includes 'Seaside Spell' by Margery Sharp; 'Even a worm can earn' by Michael Arlen; 'Frenchmen wear gloves' by Margery Allingham and an article about the Suez Canal alongside nostalgic (sometimes bizarre) advertisements (including 'A perfect looking nose', summer cottages and bungalows).
¶ 'Error at Daybreak' is an 11-page short story penned by John Dickson Carr (1906-1977), first published here, 'illustrated by H.A. Seabright' (black and white drawings depicting scenes from the story). In 1956 a film version appeared with Boris Karloff as Colonel March of Scotland Yard.
