Souvenir booklet with an account of the national mourning and funeral of Queen Astrid. Illustrated with black and white/sepia photographs. Text in French and Dutch. The album should contain 10 tear-out postcards with portraits of the beautiful queen by Belgian royalty photographer Robert Marchand.
Furthermore, the book is filled with nostalgic advertisements (because commerce is of all times) of Au Bon Marché, Harker's Ski Sport, sherry from The Bodega Company, Oldsmobile cars, various hotels and advertisements for a 'colonial lottery' ("Loterie Coloniale; Gros Lot: 2 1/2 millions") with portrait of two black women with ear piercings by [Jeff Fasau?].
¶ More than sixty years before the British got their Diana, the Belgians already had their Astrid. The beloved fourth queen of the Belgians, Astrid Sofia Lovisa Thyra of Sweden (1905-1935) died at a young age in Küssnacht, Switzerland. Queen Astrid was the mother of the later King Baudouin (1930-1993) and King Albert II.
