Exhibition catalogue of the erotic "hortisculptures" by the Arnhem artist Ferdi (1927-1969). Illustrated with black and white photos (including by Ed van der Elsken). Catalogus No. 439. Cf. Wolters #1113; Huygen p. 218.

¶ Born as Ferdina Jansen, Ferdi dropped her surname after the Second World War and learned to weld from Ossip Zadkine in Paris where she met her husband Shinkichi Tajiri. With him she had two daughters. From 1966 onwards Ferdi made approximately 15 hortisculptures; colorful, naturalistic flowers and insects made of faux fur, textiles and other materials (with titles such as 'Penis Vulgaris' and 'Vulva Pseudodomestica').

The Dutch Bonnefanten Museum is restoring the six hortisculptures in its collection.
