Dutch translation of The Goldfinch (2013); the acclaimed novel by the American writer Donna Tartt (1963-), situated in New York, but full of Dutch elements and with a finale in Amsterdam. Author photo: Beowulf Sheehan. FIRST EDITION with ribbon marker.
¶ The Dutch title 'Het puttertje' refers to a painting from 1654 by the Dutch painter Carel Fabritius, which plays an important role in the story. References are also included to other Dutch artists, such as Rembrandt, Frans Hals and Vincent van Gogh.
The book had its world premiere in the Dutch translation in 2013, a month earlier than the English original. The Goldfinch won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 2014.
