¶ Arnhemse Monumentenreeks 13. "In the fourteenth century, Arnhem experienced a flourishing period as a trading city. In this period, large stone merchant houses, inns and wineries with spacious cellars were built in the commercial quarter.
While the medieval houses have mostly perished, the cellars have often survived. In the 1990s, many old cellars were rediscovered, which resulted in extensive research and ultimately in a unique undertaking: the merging of more than thirty historic cellars in the Rijnstraat into a subterranean complex, which was opened in 2002.
