Condition: Good - with wear and reading folds on the spine.
Presented as a novel, but in fact a collection of essays about porn, curiosities and the undesirability of censorship. Illustrated with a section of erotic black-and-white photos and film stills, provided with dubious subtitles. With bibliography. Text in Dutch.
The book also consists of reviews of other books by the publisher, of which an extensive illustrated list is added. Not surprising since Filiep van Maele, pseudonym of the Flemish author André Verhaeghe (1914-1993) was also the owner of Uitgeverij De Steenbok.
¶ Cf. Sliggers p. 228/229: Verhaeghe's publishing house specialized in pulp literature, which he largely wrote himself under various pseudonyms (including 'D. Demeyer' and the somewhat obvious pen name 'André Lahaye' under which he published 'Ik, Françoise en de nikker'). During the Second World War he was arrested as a resistance member and in 1943 imprisoned in Dachau. In 1945 a Kortrijk printing house published his biography 'Mijn leven in de klauwen der Nazibeulen'.
