[N.J. van Dalen?] - Gemeente Arnhem. Arnhemsche Broek [Schaal van 25 el op de duim] - [Utrecht?] - [1846?] - Manuscript hand-coloured map on sheet - 46 x 66 cm.
Condition: Good - two small holes.
Original 19th century drawing in ink, with a map of the center of the Gelderland capital. Hand-colored in blue, yellow and pink watercolor. Undated, but probably made around 1846 by the Utrecht engineer N.J. van Dalen or someone in his environment (signed 'Schon' at the bottom left).
¶ Bordered by the markings Sonsbeek, Klarenbeek, Arnhemsche Broek and the river Rijn, we find the northern part of the city center on the map, surrounded by the "stadscingel" (the Jansbinnensingel) with the course of the Sint-Jansbeek below. In the center the 'Groote Kerk' (Eusebius church). Also visible are a riding school, an Improvement and Disciplinary House, the St. Walburgis Church and the Court of Justice.
Various street names are indicated, such as Koningstraat, Bakkerstraat, Groote Markt, Nieuwstad, Zwanensteeg, Roggestraat, Land van de Markt, Ketelstraat, Vijzelstraat, Grote Oord and Jansstraat. Collector's item: A UNIQUE piece of city history that begs to be framed.
