First part of this photobooklet with shocking black and white images of the destroyed houses of the beautiful village after Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bridge at Arnhem. Text in Dutch and English. A second part was published in 1985.
¶ Compiled by father (1916-2010) and son, both called Geert Maassen. On September 17, 1944, about 5,200 men of the British 1st Airborne Division landed on terrains near Wolfheze and north of Heelsum. In their attempt to capture the Rhine bridge at Arnhem, they had to cross right through Oosterbeek.
