Second part of a photobooklet with shocking black and white photos of the destroyed houses of the beautiful village after Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the bridge at Arnhem. Text in Dutch and English. The first part appeared in 1980.
¶ Compiled by father (1916-2010) and son, both called Geert Maassen. On September 17, 1944, about 5,200 men of the British 1st Airborne Division landed on terrain near Wolfheze and north of Heelsum. In their attempt to conquer the Rhine bridge at Arnhem, they had to go straight through Oosterbeek.
