Revolutionary book by Canadian philosopher Marshall McLuhan (1911-1980) that is considered "the most important book ever written on communication". The author states, among other things, that the media are an extension of the human senses and influence both the individual and society in a determining way.
McLuhan introduced the term "global village" and the phrase "the medium is the message" here and predicted the World Wide Web 30 years BEFORE the Internet became a reality (!).
¶ Hardcover 'First UK Edition' that appeared simultaneously with or soon after the US first edition. The selling price at the time was 42 shillings. This copy COMPLETE with the rare 'unclipped' dust jacket, with some wear and spots on the backside. The book also comes from the archive of the Dutch writer Simon Vinkenoog (1928-2009), who placed his signature and date ('Amsterdam, 1966') on the title page and underlined a number of important passages with ballpoint.
