¶ Le Corbusier (= Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris, 1887-1965) was a Swiss-French urban planner. His concept of 'La ville radieuse' (radiant architecture) is said to have a positive influence on the urban environment. Architecture could be made 'radiant' through the use of the 'modulor', Corbusier's own proportional system.
Le Corbusier's significance and influence for new building and the international style were so great that he is sometimes referred to as the 'architect of the 20th century'.
