Reprint of the much-translated war chronicle Het bittere kruid [Bitter Herbs], a classic of European literature on the Second World War. The debut of Marga Minco (pseudonym of Sara Menco, 1920-2023). This was the second SEPARATELY BOUND EDITION. A hardcover was published in 1968, together with Een leeg huis; in 1980 the 21st edition was released in cloth binding (with cover by Rudo Hartman).
¶ The dust jacket of this 31st edition was the last design by designer Jan Vermeulen (1923-1985). After his sudden death, the design was completed by his wife Marlous Bervoets. Cf. Voeten p. 34; Leven in letters p. 153.
