First trade edition of the novella by Hella S. Haasse (1918-2011), which was originally published as a 'boekenweekgeschenk'. Bound in beautifully designed binding (with a kind of batik decoration).
¶ This copy with beautiful SIGNATURE of Hella Haasse on the title page. Not dated, but judging from the ink used in a dip pen, this was done in the 1950s.
