Rather unknown and anonymously published short sketch with a dedication and SIGNATURE by the writer J.A. Alberdingk Thijm (1820-1889); the father of the 'Tachtiger' Lodewijk van Deyssel (1864-1952).
It is unclear who is the author of the text. The painter H.C. is also referred to in the story as 'Creemer' and the I-figure calls himself "Th. R*T." However, these initials do not appear in the reference work Vermomde en naamlooze schrijvers by J.I. van Doorninck (1883) nor subsequently by A. de Kempenaer (1928). This title is also not present in the public collections.
¶ It could be that this is a mystification of Thijm himself. The dedication in this copy is addressed to "My friend W. Cramer." This must be Thijm's co-editor at the Spektator, Willem Cramer (1817-1884). Read about this friendship Michel van der Plas, Vader Thijm p. 43-46. All together a VERY INTERESTING AND OBSCURE 19TH CENTURY PUZZLE PIECE.
