Dutch version of Sigilla comitum Flandriae et inscriptiones diplomatum ab iis editorum (1639); an excellent heraldic overview of all seals and coat of arms of the Flemish counts, compiled by the 17th century Bruges historian Olivier de Wree (1596-1652) also called Olivarius Vredius. With index ('Tafel').
Illustrated with 112 pages copper engravings of seals and weapons (with damsels on horseback and knights in full armour), a family tree and a map of Belgium. Some images are coloured (a bit clumsily, but most likely contemporary). The margins are trimmed. A single page is bound in the wrong order.
Please Note: All artwork is COMPLETE AND PRESENT.
BUT: The text pages 169/170; 179/180; 183/184 and 189/190 are WANTING.
¶ Bound in tasteful cream-coloured half-leather private binding with the title and year in calligraphy on the spine. Rare first Flemish edition of this standard work.
