Jiskefet actor Herman Koch broke through internationally as a celebrated writer with this book (which was acclaimed as a Dutch "Dr. Jekyll" by NRC critic Pieter Steinz). The book was subsequently adapted to a movie in the Netherlands (with Thekla Reuten and Daan Schuurmans) and Hollywood.
¶ 'Het diner' appeared in January 2009 and within three months the publisher ordered no less than ten print-runs with a total circulation of 100,000 copies. However, the first edition does not appear on the market that often (anymore). Collectors item.
