A 'wrong' sequel to the medieval epic animal poem Of Reynaert the Fox (from "Willem die Madoc maakte"). Illustrated with black and white drawings by Maarten Meuldijk (1894-1972). The title page printed in red and black. Text in Dutch. Hardback edition.
Cf. De Bodt / Kapelle p. 190; Groeneveld p. 90.
¶ Robert van Genechten (1895-1945) was a prominent NSB member, just like the Volk en Vaderland caricature artist Meuldijk. In their anti-Semitic version, the ("Jewish") rhinoceros Jodocus plays the role of a stranger who destroys the land where he settles. The book was also adapted into a Disney-esque animation film. Van Genechten was sentenced to death, but it never came to his execution. He committed suicide in prison.
This copy is complete with the fragile and very rare dust jacket. Some tears have been professionally restored by master bookbinder Hans Zegveld from Nijmegen. At the bottom left is a bite out of the jacket of about 5 x 4 cm. It is now protected in (optionally removable) acid-free Brod-art cover.
