¶ Couperus's books were often (and especially by the publisher L.J. Veen) published in bindings after designs by famous artists (including Jan Toorop, R.N. Roland Holst, Theo Neuhuys and H.P. Berlage). These bindings, often in Art Nouveau style, became sought-after collectors' items. This standard work is indispensable for collectors.
