Catalogue / monograph with overview of the work of the Dutch artist and TV maker Wim T. Schippers (1942-). Illustrated with photos and reproductions. With foreword by Sjarel Ex., chronology, bibliography and index. Text in Dutch (red letters) and English (green letters). Hardback edition.
Well designed book (by Thonik!), which was remarkably distributed at the time by Boekhandel De Slegte (a bookshop specialized in ramsj and publisher's leftovers). In order to read the text in one of the two languages, a green and red transparent sheet has been inserted. In the front is an envelope with 21 flyers of varying sizes, including reproductions of posters.
Nominated in the 50 Best Dutch Book Designs of 1997; "[It's] one grand, spectacular find [...]". The jury was "more concerned with the genius application [of the transparent sheets]." The book fits its main character in every way."
¶ Wim T. Schippers is known as a voice actor for Ernie and Kermit the Frog in the Dutch Sesame Street. His visual art is related to Fluxus, pop art and conceptual art. In the early 1960s, for example, he emptied a bottle of Green Spot lemonade into the North Sea as a manifestation and he made a theater performance in which live dogs could be seen on stage: "Going to the dogs" (1986). Together with Theo van den Boogaard he made the Sjef van Oekel comics.
