Antique volume of this 19th century magazine for children. Illustrated "with [47 of] 52 large plates "om uit te knippen, op te plakken, na te teekenen of te kleuren, en vele houtgravuren tusschen den tekst." With solutions to the riddles. Hardback edition with decorative paper on the boards. Cf. Rietveld van Wingerden 67.

¶ This creative 'children's newspaper' is a kind of craft book. It contains sheet music, a ghost story and images of, i.a. some kind of chessboard, cut-out paper dolls and figures (including soldiers, a violin player, an elephant, a classroom in which the master gives a student a caning and a merry-go-round at the fair).

On plate 11 you can see a "moortje", a black child eating a sour lemon: "Schrik niet van dat lieve bakkesje! Dat zwarte gezigtje is zoo kwaad niet; het is maar een beetje vertrokken. Wat behoefde hij ook van dien citroen te gaan eten! Dacht hij welligt dat het een oranje-appel was?"

[Transl.]: "Don't be frightened by that sweet little face. That black face is not so bad; it has only moved a little. Why did he eat that lemon! Did he think it was an orange apple?"
