Debut novel by the Book Week author Marianne Philips (1886-1951); a book about a single office girl who suffers from tuberculosis and keeps a diary. Hardcover first edition (this book was probably published with a dust jacket). After the writer's death, a second edition appeared at De Bezige Bij.
¶ Philips wrote the 1950 'boekenweekgeschenk': 'De zaak Beukenoot'. From 1951 to 1975, a literary prize (established by her widower) bearing her name was awarded annually: the Marianne Philips-prijs. Her oeuvre is small, but is nevertheless a challenge to bring together in first editions.
