Antique collection of poems with comforting (partially translated) verses for parents of children who died young, compiled by the Dutch poet-reverend Jan Jakob Lodewijk ten Kate (1819-1889). With table of contents. Advertising in the back for, among others, Mr. Rhijnvis Feith ('Het graf'). Bound in original book binding with marbled paper boards.

¶ It was the time of Romanticism. The collection is filled with poignant poems with titles such as 'Doodgeboren', 'Lykkrans voor mijn dochtertje', 'Het kranke meisjen', 'De verloren lieveling' and - by Ten Kate himself - 'O vroeggestorven bloem'.

The book furthermore contains texts by Hans Christan Andersen, Thomas More, Hendrik Tollens, Victor Hugo, Jean Paul, Joost van den Vondel, and Willem Bilderdijk. Included is also the verse ''Vroeggestorvenen' by Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'.
