Monograph about the 'Arnhems Meisje'; a 1980 bronze statue that was awarded as a gift by the municipal council of the Gelderland capital. Illustrated with photos (by Rinus Baak) in COLOUR. With list of names of laureates. Hardcover edition. Print run: 300 copies. A loose erratum was added to the book.
¶ The 'Arnhems Meisje' [Arnhem Girl] was designed (and cast) by the Zutphen sculptor Joop te Riele (1939-). Initially, an unknown number of athletes received a lead copy during the 1980 Olympic Games for the Disabled in Arnhem (Papendal). The remainder of the lead version was given away as a gift by the municipality until 2000.
After 2000, the statue was cast from bronze and only awarded by B&W as an honor for special merits. In 1993, a life-size statue of the Arnhem Girl appeared on the Bolwerk (near Vossenstraat / Weerdjesstraat).
