Illustrated with reproductions of the glass negatives in black and white and sepia. With foreword by Arthur J.J. Parisius. With bibliography. Hardcover edition.
¶ The 'ladies Curiel', from the upper circles of Paramaribo and 'purveyors to the court' from 1929, were considered the leading photographers in Suriname. After Augusta's death, Anna continued the studio until 1952.
This monograph gives a unique picture of Suriname in the early 20th century, with images of the streets of Paramaribo, Moengo, Coronie, the plantations, the factories, the gold mines and of course the portrait photos of the people.
