Condition: Good - with contemporary, English handwritten message from a certain 'Catharina'; "that we all may have a happy landing in the earth made new. Where there will be no more [...] sickness or pain."

Antique Dutch translation of The Great Controversy between Christ and Satan (1888); by American writer Ellen Gould White (1827-1915), co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Illustrated with black and white plates. With appendix ('algemene aantekeningen') and 'Index van Bybelsche Aanwyzingen'. Hardcover edition.

¶ Curious book with chronological church history from the fall of Adam and Eve to an apocalypse in the near future. With separate chapters on Martin Luther, Johannes Wycliffe and the Baptist William Miller (1782-1849), who was the founder of the Adventist movement (from which the Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses originate).

Pages 146 and 147 are discolored by an internal promotional brochure (New Day Series 13: 'In the Steps of the Master') promoting a Bible study. Beautiful black binding, like a kind of Bible, with the title in gold stamp and blind-stamped decoration on the cover and spine and marbled edges.

This may be the first Dutch-language edition of this authoritative work for the Zevendedagsadventisten (ZDA), which is still reprinted to this day.
