Antique 19th century edition of the famous book by the Dutch writer / freemason Eduard Douwes Dekker (1820-1887). With notes and clarifications on the 1875 edition (revised, amended and supplemented in 1881). Cf. De Mare 199.
¶ Hardcover edition in red linen binding with a decoration of a coffee plant in black (with the inscription 'Coffea arabica' in gold print) and the title on the front cover and spine in silver. There is also a variant in khaki-colored linen. According to the list of other titles by Multatuli at the front of the book, a 'neat gilt binding' cost Fl. 2.40.
This was the last edition revised by the author himself.
