Catalogue of an exhibition with the work of the French surrealist painter (of Jewish-Romanian descent) Victor Brauner (1903-1966). Illustrated with black and white photos. Catalogus no. 387. An addendum accompanies the book. Cf. Wolters #892; Huygen p. 231.
¶ Brauner settled in Paris in 1930, where he met his compatriot Constantin Brâncuși and lived with Alberto Giacometti and Yves Tanguy on Rue de Moulin Vert. Here he painted his self-portrait with destroyed eye in 1931. A grim prediction; seven years later he lost his eye during a violent argument between Oscar Dominguez and Esteban Frances.
