Illustrated with black and white drawings. With index. Bound in typical late 19th century industrial book binding.
¶ Included in the index are anthropomorphic apes, Avebury, burial sites, barbaric ideas about dreams, superstitions about spear points, Charles Darwin, death and the worship of the dead, druids, single-celled animals, burial mounds, boundary stones, dolmens, menhirs, skulls, Stonehenge, tattoos, totems, water and witches, and the Black Stone at Mecca.
Also includes an image of Lalla Rookh (Trucanini or Truganini, ca. 1812-1876); believed to be the last full-blooded Aboriginal of Tasmania (after her people were exterminated).
