Coffee table book with adaptation of the masterpiece by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) about the man Faust who sells his soul to the devil Mephistopheles. Illustrated with 14 black and white photographs after August von Kreling (1819-1876). With a foreword by the translator and 'Getuigenissen aangaande Faust' by, among others, Mr. Isaäc Da Costa.

¶ Bound in a large-format red industrial fine binding with gilt decoration and gold edges. A German edition (1875/1877) with the same plates was published by F.A. Bruckmann in Munich. Dated with the information on an inserted letter from the publisher (signed by G.J. van der Lek) from 1967.
