¶ Johannes Jacobus Klant was an economist and professor at the University of Amsterdam. On the back of the dust jacket of the second edition (1948) of Gerard Reve's 'De Avonden', an advertisement is made for this "afrekening met duivel en dood" (according to F. Bordewijk) and "meest opmerkelijke proza debuut na de bevrijding" (W.F. Hermans).
