Collection of stories by Hildebrand (= Nicolaas Beets, 1814-1903), originally published in 1839. Illustrated with black and white prints in the text and the author's portrait as a frontispiece in lithography. With table of contents and the prefaces from the 6th (1864) and 14th edition (1883.

¶ With motto of Horace: "Nec lusise pudet, sed non incidere ludum". Attractive antiquarian edition from the fin-de-siècle, bound in half leather, provided with gilded title and gold edges.
