Debut novel by Dutch journalist Henri Knap (1911-1986), set in 1930/1931, but written in Arnhem/Velp, from January to December 1944. Hardback edition. The book was probably published with a dust jacket.

¶ In the war year 1944, Knap was head of the intelligence service of the NBS, Arnhem department, a resistance organization that provided the Allies with intelligence during the Battle of Arnhem, part of Operation Market Garden. He wrote the 1981 Book Week gift (as a replacement for Gerard Reve).
