¶ Hendrik Heukels (1854-1936) was a Dutch teacher at the teacher training college and flora writer who considered the knowledge of the plant and animal world so important that he translated and edited Otto Wünsche's 'Schulflora von Deutschland' for the Netherlands (in 1883). He continued to improve this flora. In 1900 he published the first edition of the Illustrated Flora, which would become the most important scientific field flora in the Netherlands.
