Early 1930s edition of the best-known novel by Ina Boudier-Bakker (1975-1966). With list of other titles of "the queen of the Dutch women's novel". Printed in Wormerveer at Meijer's Boek- en Handelsdrukkerij. Hardback edition.

¶ The first edition appeared in October 1930. The book remains popular with the public to this day, but literary criticism was less enthusiastic. The May issue of De Gemeenschap (1934) included a so-called "very short review" by a certain 'V.D.E.' (= almost certainly the culture lover Herman van den Eerenbeemt), about 'De klop op de deur' [The Knock on the Door]:

"DO NOT OPEN!"
