Cf. Rietveld-van Wingerden 67. This creative 'children's newspaper' is a kind of craft book. It contains articles about and/or images of i.a. a chessboard, 'Nieuwe Haring', Napoleon Bonaparte, wolves in Gelderland, Turks, a pocket almanac that can be cut out to make your own booklet, children's poems, an ostrich, ship flags and arithmetic exercise to "al spelende tellen te leeren."

We discovered on page 42 a fold-out 'Lijst der bekroonden bij den wedstrijd voor jonge lieden, die op de Kinder-Courant geabonneerd zijn 1853-1854'. Among the winners is Engel Douwes-Dekker (1842-1906). Multatuli's nephew submitted a perpetual almanac and won "Een boekwerk: Sommer, Verkort tafereel van het Heelal".

Engel was the eldest son of Multatuli's brother Pieter. According to Van der Meulen p. 713, Multatuli visited him in The Hague in 1881, when he was director of the Nederlands-Indische Levensverzekering- en Lijfrentemaatschappij there. The renewed acquaintance was cordial and later Engel and his family stayed with his uncle in Germany.
