Bibliophile essay on 'verlangen' [= desire] and poetry by the poet Jacques Bloem (1887-1967). Text set from the Garamont letter and printed on handmade paper with the watermark "Eenhoorn" by Van Gelder Zonen. Edition: 250 copies. Cf. Van Dijk 500.

The first edition appeared in 1924, also issued by Alexander Stols as the second volume in his series "To the Happy Few" in an edition of 50 copies "welke allen door den dichter en door den drukker van hunne handteekeningen werden voorzien." This second edition was printed in July 1941, during the German occupation in World War II, by Meijer's Boek- en Handelsdrukkerij in Wormerveer.

¶ This copy (with early number, 18) bears on the paste-down an ex-libris of (according to a note in pencil; the doctor from The Hague) Jac. van Sierenberg de Boer with the slogan 'Wij zullen zien' ['We shall see']. The woodcut (executed by an artist unknown to me) depicts, among other things, a harp, a skull and a microscope.
