¶ Tolkien (1892-1973) surprised his offspring with, among other things, a self-made Goblin Alphabet, with which some of the letters could be deciphered. The documentation starts in 1925 and ends in 1938. During this period he was professor of Anglo-Saxon language at the University of Oxford.
