[N.J. van Dalen?] - De Stad Arnhem - [Utrecht?] - [1846?] - Manuscript hand-coloured map on sheet - [irregular shape] 59 x 83.5 cm.

Condition: Fragile - with some repairs and reinforced with tape. A section has been cut out erratically.

Original drawing with a map of the area around the Arnhem city center, surrounded by "De Cingels" (the Jansbuitensingel). Undated, but probably manufactured around 1846 by the Utrecht engineer N.J. van Dalen or someone from his environment. Unpublished (not in Burgers/Vredenberg).

¶ The center is blank, but we do see buildings near the Steenstraat (where there is also a cemetery), on the left at the station square (De Posthoorn) and at the bottom near the harbor area "de Waardjes" (now Weerdjesstraat). Prominent at the bottom is the Rhine with the ship bridge that would serve until 1935.

The harbor is located where the 'Blauwe Golven' and the access ramp to the Nelson Mandela Bridge are today. The locations of the Oil Mill, the Corn Mill, the Kruidmagazijn, the Palmboom, the Roermondsche and Pegasche Gracht are shown in handwriting.
