The first two years of this early 19th century Belgian art magazine which existed until 1854. Illustrated with lithographic prints, etchings and copper engravings. With table of contents and list of members.
Contains i.a. an early article (Vol. I p. 25-28; 40; 47) about the brand new photography procedure (Daguerrotype or Daguerreotype) of Mr. Louis Daguerre (1787-1851) and Mr. Joseph Nicéphore Niépce (1765-1833).
Furthermore we find a review of Goethe's Faust (II p. 105); musical score 'Le vieux père' (Gustave Oppelt); a poem 'Napoleon' by André van Hasselt (II p. 134) and an account of the repatriation and reburial of Napoleon Bonaparte's body in France (in 1840, II p. 186-187).
¶ The 47 present beautiful original engravings show i.a. a shepherd with his sheeps (Eugène Verboeckhoven); a bibliophile (or bibliomane) by pioneer lithographer Jean-Baptiste Madou; Chateau de Gaesbeek (Gaasbeek) by François Stroobant; an Ice Skating scène ('Jean Steen et sa femme' by Ferdinand Braekeleer the Elder); Cows in a field (lithograph by Jacques Raymond Brascassat and etching by Louis Robbe); a wonderful old tree by Paul Lauters and two prints of Scheveningen (The Netherlands; Wijnand Nuyen beach scène and Andreas Schelfhout ships at sea).
