Condition: Good - with some (usual) rust on the head edge and in the interior, but very FRESH BINDING.

Second 'royal novel' (a sequel to Majesteit) by Louis Couperus (1863-1923). Third bound edition in so-called "Mask binding" after a design by B.W. Wierink (with swastikas in the decoration on the spine). Cf. Van Vliet p. 159-162; Matla 7II.da.

¶ Reprint without the 'Voorrede'. A total of 700 copies were issued in this binding (as hardcover). Couperus, who had not been consulted, thought the design was 'leelijk [ugly]'. There should also exist a paperback version.
