Standard work in the historiography of prostitution and abolitionism, mainly in the Netherlands and Belgium, introduced by three men: Prof. dr. M.A. van Bouwdijk Bastiaanse (professor of women's diseases at the UvA), police commissioner M.H.E. de Man and Ds. K. Sietsma. With bibliography and table of contents.

Hardback edition. The book comes with a dust jacket whose design (a nighttime image of a group of houses and a red-lit window) was created by Co-op2, the advertising agency of Belgian graphic designer Paul Guermonprez (1908-1944). He was shot by the Gestapo as a resistance fighter.
