Condition: Fragile - but (most likely) COMPLETE.

Antique publication on female sexuality and pregnancy. Illustrated with black and white drawings and a fold-out "pop-up" in colour lithograph. Hardback edition with linen spine. Rare - according to NCC not in public collection.

The first edition of this treatise by Dutch physician Jacobus Schoondermark (1849-1915). There exists also a volume on the male genitalia. Later editions were published by Gebr. Grauw. The cover mentions 3 movable plates, but most likely the book was published with only one set of fold-out lithographs.

Schoondermark held as title "Prof. dr. Med.", but - according to Wikipedia - it is doubtful whether he obtained an academic degree. In the "Who's who in gay and lesbian history" he is referred to as a 'quack'. He also wrote books on contraceptives and homosexuality. A list of titles can be found on the back of this copy, including "Een Zevental Sexueele Gebreken" [Sexual Defects]; here Onanism, Lesbian Love and Rape are mentioned side by side in the subtitle.
