Dutch translation of the report of the search for a missing German governor in Africa, by the Welsh-American-British journalist and explorer Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904). Illustrated with black and white engravings and (folding) plates and maps. With table of contents. Hardback edition.

¶ After his famous expedition to find missionary David Livingstone ("Dr. Livingstone, I presume?"), Stanley made more trips through Central Africa. In 1887 he made his last journey across the Congo to track down the German governor Emin Pasha (= Eduard Schnitzer, 1840-1892). Pasha was found in the Congolese rainforests (Wadelai) but he had no intention of being 'saved' at all. He was enjoying himself in Africa: he had built a cotton mill, collected birds and other animals, and built up a valuable collection of ivory.

Finally, he let Stanley persuade him to accompany him to Zanzibar. During this journey they discovered Lake Edward and the Rwenzori Mountains together. Arriving in Bagamoyo, on the coast opposite Zanzibar, Emin Pasha suffered a severe concussion after falling from a window during a reception by Hermann von Wissmann. Stanley had to leave Emin Pasha in Bagamoyo to heal and returned to England without him via Zanzibar and Cairo. During the rescue expedition, two thirds of the expedition members had died. - Wikipedia.
