Original copper engraving with geometric plan of the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem. Dienende tot de gedenk-stukken der Jooden en andere oudheden [...] (1725) by Antoine Augustin Calmet (1672-1757).
¶ Attractive antiquarian print of the Jewish sacred building. Visible is i.a. the location of the columns Jachin and Boaz, the staircase with seven steps and the Holy of Holies (indicated with the letter G). Allegedly, the space of the Most Holy measured 10 cubits (= approx. 5 meters) long, wide and high, so a pure cube. Here stood the Ark of the Covenant with the Cherubs.
