¶ Around 1920, Arnhem was struggling with a major housing shortage and therefore realized a self-sufficient neighborhood north-east of the city with a market square, shops and schools. All built on a hilly terrain that lies on the lateral moraine from the penultimate ice age.

The book deals mainly with the architecture (designs by i.a. Johannes van Biesen, Hendrik Barend van Broekhuizen, Jos Cuypers, Gerrit Feenstra and Jan Gratama) but well-known local residents ("Geitenkampers" such as Vitesse coach Theo Bos), the Second World War and the pillarization are also discussed.
