Dutch translation of Im Westen nichts Neues (1929), the most famous war novel by the German/American writer Erich Maria Remarque (originally Erich Paul Remark, 1898-1970). This may be the FIRST SOFTCOVER edition.

The cover has the same design as the dust jacket of the first nine editions. The edition probably consisted of 1000 to 5000 copies. Today all early printings are scarce. In 2022, the book was remade into a movie (All Quiet on the Western Front) by Netflix.

¶ Erich Maria Remarque fought on the Western Front during World War I until he was wounded by a grenade in Belgium in 1917. He processed his experiences in Im Westen nichts Neues, which was published in January 1929. The sequel, Der Weg zurück, appeared in 1931.
