¶ In the 18th and 19th centuries, the northern outskirts of Arnhem, where tobacco was grown, changed considerably. Farmers changed their business model to housing; farms were converted for room rental and small rental houses also appeared, which laid the foundation for the neighbourhood ‘Onder de Linden’.

With many workers huddled together, entertainment is welcome. Theodorus Peters organised open-air concerts with fireworks afterwards at his taproom on the 'Hommelscheweg' (the later neighbourhood café Petersberg). There were almost thirty seats inside, more than a hundred and fifty outside. Gradually alcohol was also served. But did they have a permit for this? And where does the name Petersberg come from?
